Most of the UMW Libraries' databases and electronic journals are licensed for use by the current students, faculty, and staff of the University of Mary Washington. To comply with the requirements mandated by the vendors of these commercial services, UMW must authenticate each user by requiring users to login during each browser session via our proxy server.
When you click on a restricted database or resource on our website or in our catalog, you will be prompted to enter your username and password. In most cases, this will be your UMW network ID and password.

Faculty may request that UMW Libraries purchase materials to be added to our collections. All requests will be considered, but given the size of the University and the finite resources allocated to the Libraries, it is impossible to provide all the materials that may be necessary or desirable. You will need to present your UMW Eagle One card to check out materials from Simpson Library. You may also authorize others to conduct some library transactions for you. Contact the Simpson Library Circulation Desk at 654-1125 (press 0) to inquire about this service.
Most library materials checked out to members of the faculty will be due either in mid-December or mid-June and can be renewed up to three times. Items needed by another borrower are subject to recall, and faculty are expected to pay for lost or damaged materials. Details on the libraries' circulation polices can be found here.
