Student Aide Help Guide: Reserves

Need-to-know procedures and other information

The Basics

Course Reserves include books, photocopies, movies, and other items that instructors place on reserve so that all students enrolled in their classes have access to required and recommended materials. Other works such as style manuals and documents relating to UMW are on Permanent Reserve. You may search our catalog for reserve materials using the reserve item search. To place an item on reserve, faculty should use the online Course Reserve Material Form or fill out the paper form located on the front desk.

If you receive a paper Reserves form at the front desk, make that you fill out the Library Use Only section with Date Received, Time, and Received by.

More information about reserves can be found at http://libraries.umw.edu/course-reserves/

Checking Reserves In and Out

Reserves will check out and in just like books from the stacks.

HOWEVER, when checking out a reserve, make sure that you tell the patron the date and time that the reserve is due back.

When checking in a reserve, double-check that the reserve is shelved in the correct location on the shelf.
